Life Update/Book News

Today is a good day.

Early this year, I shelved The Book, but it wasn’t a bad thing because I had lost passion for it. I returned to another novel, we’ll call this DOMINO, that I first wrote in 2010, but at the time my writing wasn’t where I wanted it to be so it sat on my USB for several years until 2017, when I brought it back and did a complete re-write. Three further re-writes later and it was everything I wanted it to be. I would send snippets to my husband everyday and he’d devour them, and I was just so excited. I have never felt this way about a story before. I really felt like DOMINO would be The One.

7 form rejections later and to say that I felt dismayed would be an understatement. But today is a good day.

I booked a 121 with an agent from a really reputable UK agency via I AM IN PRINT. My meeting with the agent was just about an hr ago. She was so positive, and she told me all sorts of things I can do to make the first three chapters really stand out. As I explained the story to her, I saw her eyes light up and there were lots of “wows” and “ohmuhgods” in the conversation. She agreed that the story is really good, rare and interesting, and the idea is something she hasn’t seen or heard of before.

So I asked her: “if I re-do these chapters, would you be willing to look at it?”

she said: “of course, definitely”

And then we spoke about the story some more, and she encouraged me. I’m another step closer to seeing DOMINO in print, after almost a decade of waiting.

Today is a good day!
